Hey, everyone, I got tired of fighting when a website doesn't respond so I created a Bookmarklet which tests the 404'd site for me in one click. Check it out, it's linked to from the GeoApps home page. http://geoapps.com/
"Is It Down?" uses the "Down for Everyone or Just Me" http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ page. Drag the [Is It Down?] link from the GeoApps page to your Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar or to your IE "Links" Toolbar or add it to your Favorites to make it work for you. If you don't have this Bookmarklet, you have to copy the URL to be tested yourself, open the DownForEveryone page, click in to the entry field, and paste in the URL. Lot of work for me to save a few clicks, but it makes it trivial to test if a page is down. Feedback welcome, and feel free to share it with your friends and cow-orkers!
