Hello.

We currently have a single Exch 2003 box with OWA on it. Users access OWA
via https://outlook.mydomain.com/exchange.

I am planning my Exchange 2007 migration. In the process, I need to move
mailboxes from 2003 to 2007 gradually (over several weeks). While doing
this, I STILL need users to be able to access
https://outlook.mydomain.com/exchange to get their email via OWA,
REGARDLESS of whether their mailbox is running on the 2003 or 2007 server.

It is my understanding, from technotes I have read, this is possible, but
ONLY if I place my CAS role from Mailbox role on different servers. *IF* I
try to combine these roles on one server, then it won't work (I assume the
users with mailboxes on 2007 will NOT get their email properly) because the
/exchange virtual dir will not properly redirect to the /owa virtual
directory for my 2007 mailbox users.

I draw this conclusion from -->
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998849.aspx where is details
the /exchange virtual dir.

Based on that, I believe I need to seperate my CAS role from my Mailbox
role (at least until the 2003->2007 Migration is complete) in order to
continue using just a single OWA URL during the migration process.

Can someone clarify if I am understanding this correct?

Thanks
