Does everyone get the logon script or is it targeted for a subset of your users? I have had issues with mapped drives that while not being used by a user still caused user's PC to hang. That might explain why all your users are impacted with whatever network issue is involved on the server.

On the systems that are not frozen, I can ping by IP and by hostname. I have not tried nslookups while the problem occurs. But when there is not a problem, nslookups are fine. This 2K8 server is not running DNS and the only way the users are connected to it is through a logon script. Can you ping hosts inside the network by ip? By hostname? Can you do nslookups to DNS servers outside the firewall? Do you by chance have DNS installed on this 2k8 server and have your clients pointing to it for name resolution? -----Original Message----- From: Jeff Johnson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, November 06, 2009 11:30 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Server 2008 causing domain issues Terry, I have verified that the power save settings are disabled. This issue happens in the middle of the day, so there is definitely activity happening. Have you checked the Power Saving settings to make sure that in periods of no activity Server 2008 is not shutting down the NIC to save power? -----Original Message----- From: David W. From: Jeff Johnson <mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 06, 2009 11:00 AM To: NT System Admin Issues <mailto:[email protected]> Subject: Server 2008 causing domain issues Here is my situation, I have a W2K3 domain setup with 3 DC's (1 is 2K3 and 2 are 2K) I have a member server that is 2K8 that is our file server. There have been many times when my network has completely stopped working. I have been trouble shooting the problem and the only thing I have found is that when the network goes down, the 2K8 server has network connectivity issues. Many of my users have their home directories on this server, so it makes sense that they have issues, but the systems that don't rely on this server also stop working. If anyone reboots, they will sit and hang until the network is back up. The solution to this problem is to reboot the 2K8 member server. After a reboot, all things are normal. I don't get it. I have also noticed on the 2K8 machine, that the network connection switches from Internet to local. All the ip settings are static, so there are no changes there. What would cause the network connection to go from internet to local? This is what brings down my network.
