I was at a IT meeting last week and saw a presentation on a product that looked interesting. You install a small client on the server or actually could be on a dedicated "server" on the network and it used SNMP traffic to monitor all of your printers. The package was only a collector that then transmitted the data to a central server at a hosting firm that would then allow you to put in alerts and decide who got what alerts. It appeared to also allow you to pull detailed reports of who was printing when and how much. The vendor was up front that it was designed so that the hosting firm would/could be your repair shop, supplier, etc. and they would own the server at their site. He also said that the central server was not intended for a small business but for someone that could do repairs or supplies and was very expensive. It still looked interesting if you are interested let me know I will look up the name of the company. My guess is they would have a vendor of their product somewhere local to you if not I know of the one local to me.
