I used to work for an ISP in the days of dial-up. I had nightmares about modems
for years. So glad those days are behind me; I haven't touched a modem in ages.

Subject: OT: Serial port modems not supported!

We tried to upgrade our time clock software late last week, only to find that
the external, serial-port based modem was not supported by the newer version of
the software. Give me a break! Who explicitly requires a USB-based modem??? It
would seem to me (being an old Fidonet sysop) that an external serial-port
based modem would be more reliable than a USB modem.... Oh, well... Had to pony
up about $50+ to get a USR 56k USB external modem (no matter that the time
clock won't talk at more than 9600 bps! :))
