James, Thanks for the link. "Dark art" goes with "Evil Empire", doesn't it? I was able to use the browstat.exe tool as described in the article to find out pretty much what I had already determined with the other tools.
HOWEVER, I was able to use the "forceupdate" option to refresh the list, at which time all the computers show back up. Wrote a batch file, created a scheduled task to run every 15 minutes [it flashes on my screen for a fraction of a second when it runs], and the list stays updated. Sadly, I have been so beaten down by this stupid problem that I perceive this kludge as a victory and may just leave it as is. Hey, it works!
