Greetings! A user was having problems with a suite of apps based on .NET 3.0. The company's support said to try uninstalling not only their applications but all of .NET as well. Unfortunately, the .NET has claws far larger than they need be...
Control panel Add/Remove will not remove all versions (we've had 1.1 and 3.5, the latter which "adds" .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0). The Windows Install Cleanup tool also will not remove it. After using those two methods, .NET 3.0 or .NET 3.5 installs claimed either a "newer version" was already installed, or the installer would simply disply "Installation failed". (This offered no more information that I could find.) Then I went stupid... I did a seek-and-destroy mission through the file system and the registry. .NET still would not install (I got messages implying that it was already there and running). FORTUNATELY, there was a System Restore Point from yesterday... How to I clean that crap off so a clean install of .NET 3.5 SP1 can be installed? (I found one Tech Net article. Nothing there - files to delete, registry values to delete, etc were not there after the stupidity attack.) Thanks! -- Richard D.
