Do you want an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) system that will only, at best, alert you to activity taking place, or do you want an IPS (Intrusion PREVENTION System) ??? ( you can run open source IDS like SNORT, but I've used IPS by TopLayer and by 3Com/Tipping Point )

Now up until yesterday I though an IDS was just good for catching hackers trying to get through our firewall or something like that. I'm not that knowledgeable about this sort of thing.
