If you want to use a web browser then you will be using TS Web Access. This
basically provides a web page where you can provide icons to either remote apps
or a full blown desktop.

It was greatly improved in 2008R2, particularly with regards to remote apps.

Either way it still uses the terminal server client. Clicking on an icon just
launches the client and passes the particular settings to it.

Do you want to provide a specific app to your users or a full desktop? An
alternative to not setting up TS Web Access is to create an rdc file that has
all the settings in it (server name, TS Gateway address etc.) We have a number
of users who simply have this file as an attachment in their email. They just
open the email(via owa) then launch the attachment.

The rdc file could be for a full desktop, or using the RemoteApp gui you could
create a file with the setting to launch a particular remote app.

We have this technique in place at the moment as we don't have R2 installed yet
and I've found the original 2008 version of Web Access to be lacking.

Overall though we have zero vpn access for anyone. I find TS Gateway to be far
nicer. Our admins have access to connect to any computer inside the company
from wherever they are without the need for special clients (aka citrix).
Windows PC's always have RDC.

The only thing to keep in mind that is that older versions of RDC don't support
TS/RD Gateway. Version 6 and above is required.

Also RDC 2 for Macs doesn't support TS/RD Gateway either. Tell those users to
just get a real computer :)

Subject: TS Gateway Setup

Looking for some info on the setup of a TS Gateway.

I'm wanting to get rid of the PPTP/VPN scenario we are currently using
and
go with a complete browser access system (if this is possible).

So basically I was looking to have a TS Gateway (accessible via a
browser URL)
that would connect the user, automatically, to a specific Terminal
Server again
contained within a browser.

Once I get this working, I'm looking at incorporating a RSA SecurID
token
solution for increased security.

This would then eradicate the need for us to supply any hardware etc for
our
home users.

Anyone done this, point me in the right direction etc?

Regards,
Rab.
