its Officescan thats being compare but I sent this to Stu last month and
thought I would share it with the list, to give you my opinion of Trend

Hi Stu,

I have participated in the Sunbelt hosted lists for many years, and we have
spoke by e-mail a few times.

I currently work for an IT reseller the UK

Up until this week.

I have used Trend since Office Scan and Server Protect days and really liked
it, then started to not like it so much when the cut it down to small
business editions, they seemed to loose functionality but the price was
right, and it wasn't possible to buy the Enterprise products for less than
75 users so we carried on, Small business version 3 was bad, then 3.1 fixed
the issues quickly, 3.5 was Ok and 3.6 was better. Still better than
anything else I had looked at but not a patch on the OfficeScan product.
Then they released Worry Free Small Business Version 5, which has some
faults, but 5.1 fixed those and quickly.

At this point I started to play with Vipre home and liked it small fast and
effective.

Trend released Worry Free V6 and the only network we had it on was a dual
quad core server, and PC's with 4GB RAM and quad cores, with Gig bit to the
desktop and it was ok didnt seem to be anything major wrong with it.

Now I was using Vipre rescue to clean up machines, and loved thast, looked
back to Vipre home, loved that as well, was thinking about changing but we
have 4 plus customers running Trend who all seemed to think better the
Devile you know.

Trend then announce that all versions prior to 5.1 were no longer going to
receive updates, so we thought ok well upgrade everyone to 6....... BIG
MISTAKE.

Trend Worry Free 6 is broken there is no other way to describe it.

This is the reason for me e-mail, I upgrade a client on Thursday, 800MB
donwload, 2.5 hours to install, and when finished there network was to all
intents and purposes dead. So slow as to be unusable.
Removed the Agent from the server, and configured it down so that minimal
scanning was happening and switched off behaviour monitoring, and all the
other new bells and whistles, and got it working enough so the clients could
work.

I I received a phone call on Monday that the server was out of Disk Space,
the 800MB download was now taking up 6.9GB on the server all engine files
and files required by Trend to work.

I received a phone call from the same client on Tuesday that the network was
ridiculously slow, PC's taking 20 minutes to logon.

At this point I manually removed Trend from all PC's, and uninstalled from
the server once they were all restarted, the client commented "Wow, its back
to the speed it used to be years ago."

My 1st thought was Vipre, downloaded Vipre Enterprise (very small) installed
it (very quickly) but it was only 5 users, a quick call to Interactive Ideas
and we had a 25 user trial license, pushed the agent to the clients (very
simple), ran scans on all the clients (no impact to the users) picked up 3
viruses that on Machines Trend said were clean.

Its bedded in now all definitions up to date and only taking up 500MB on the
server. The memory footprint on the server is less for everything Vipre has
running, than just one service from Trend.

I am delighted, the client is over the moon, he feels like hes just upgraded
all his PC's and servers.

I just thought I should write and let you know that Vipre is brilliant and
the service from both Sunbelt and your UK distributor has been fantastic and
to top it all off I just found out that Vipre is cheaper than Trend.

Its wins all round.

Thanks again and keep up the good work. Please do not spoil the product by
adding to much too it, unless it can be added with out affecting the
performance.

Regards

Graeme
