Send'em an email and have them change their passwords remotely. You don't mention whether you have Exchange or not, but the change-password capability is built into OWA. You can also using IISADMPWD if you don't have Exchange.

But that just creates a backlog at the beginning of the school year, and it is not automated and requires effort on my part.
