I think the only way to do it is to create a new TS connection (which requires a unique connection type, transport type or network adaptor) and then point your remote app clients to that.

It seems to be a global on/off setting on the underlying RDP-TCP connection. Even if you enable it on the RemoteApps, it doesn't work until you enable it on the connection. This opens an avenue to directly transfer data for other types of clients that I would like to keep closed.
