Well, we've been told that the 114x RD1000 unit can be configured with a SAS connection, so it should be decent speeds.

I use robocopy to backup to these, and having the media treated like just another drive makes file restoration very simple. Works about as well as a USB drive from a speed perspective. Ejecting cartridges is simple. Cartridges themselves are expensive. Any RDX cartridge will work, you don't have to buy Dell's. I purchased Tandberg branded 500 GB drives because they were ~$250 cheaper than the Dell's at the time of purchase. I prefer these over tape, and we still use them mainly as another backup medium (disk, cartridge, and offsite).
