Profile path and filename too long

Hello
    We have had a lot of roaming profiles failing to load recently.  In looking 
at the event logs it appears the total path of some files is too long.  I am 
not sure but I believe it started when we installed IE8 on 2 of our 3 terminal 
servers.  Has anybody else encountered this and if so then how did you solve it 
(globally)...Thanks
