It would depend on the size of the company and its culture. For most small
shops (less than 35 or so) this should quite doable. 200+, not so much.

A bigger factor is the company's culture - I would think this could be done at
a place like Google. My company here is about 350 users and we could damn near
get away with something like this. They do allow some oddball stuff here and
I'd bet with some planning IT could get away with an April 1 joke and not
adversely impact productivity.

You could think of it as a litmus test of how uptight a company is.

I resigned years and years ago to NOT pull April Fools jokes on my end users,
no way I want to damage my credibility even for one day's fun. ( they are fair
game one by one other times of the year though ! <grin> )

I sent this email this morning to all my users...being April Fool's day and
all...

Hello all...

For those of you that had your computers on overnight, a new security system
has been installed for restarting your computers. This is a hands-free method
that was published some time ago by Microsoft.

To restart your computer, say your name then say RESTART. Direct your voice
towards your computer and it will reboot.

For those who didn't have their computers on overnight, this should work once
you log into the domain this morning.

Please let me know if anyone has problems.

Thanks!

I've heard at least three people trying it and, God as my witness, one of our
east Indian users came up to me and said "I think we have an accent problem,
Bill. It's not working for me!"

Gotta love it!!
