Same here, but with about 50 out of ~800 remote users supplied with company laptops/blackberrys. Company supplied ones are set to update to MS and have SEP installed updating directly from symantec.
Access is via FirePass, which is also a pain. Most of our remote users are self-employed and responsible for their on own equipment. Regardless of ownership, Symantec EndPoint Encryption has been installed, or if that didn't work, TrueCrypt. Period. The remote users are responsible for their own equipment. The company does not supply laptops, cell phones, etc to our remote users. -----Original Message----- From: Joseph Heaton [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 10:52 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Remote, on-the-road users How do you guys manage remote users' machines? I have many users that use laptops out of their cars, or desktops out of their homes, etc. that rarely, if ever actually connect to the network by wire. They'll access their e-mail through the web, and for some, that's as much contact as they have. How do you manage that type of system? Ensure security updates, AV updates, etc? Is it even possible, realistically? Any thoughts are appreciated. ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ This e-mail is intended only for the addressee named above.
