Alex - thank you for the open and honest response. It is greatly appreciated
and frankly very refreshing.

When I get back from CommVault training next week, I'll spin up some VMs to
play with both Sophos and Vipre. Based on the replies I've received on and off
list, it sounds like I won't go very wrong with either choice.

Jim

Sophos makes a solid product, and its a good company. We have a great
relationship with them and share samples. One of their former VPs, Bill
Emerick, now runs all of Sunbelt's R&D, IT, support and product management; and
our sales engineer for the UK is ex-Sophos.

IMHO, either Sophos or VIPRE will do you well. Test each one, decide what you
like in terms of perf, the console, etc. Detections are very close.

On the pricing side, it's an annual subscription model, which is something to
consider.

I've been using Sophos on desktops for 10 years and love it. When I bought it
back then Sophos would allow all my employees to have it on their home
computers at no additional cost. I'm not sure they offer that anymore though
as they have changed their marketing to go through 3rd party partners; I don't
believe you can buy direct anymore.

I admin around 100 machines. The UI is intuitive and full of information. It
has dashboards for quick reviews of the systems. I have seen Sophos catch
things that have gotten through McAfee and Symantec on Exchange. We have never
had a network wide breakout nor a signature file that caused problems.

Frankly because I am pleased with Sophos, I've not considered any other vendor.

Are there any comparisons out there between Sophos and Vipre Enterprise?
I see the marketing materials comparing Vipre with Symantec and McAfee. I've
already ruled both Symantec and McAfee out those out and I'm down to Sophos,
Trend Micro or Vipre. I'd like to hear from any other Sophos customers out
there before I stand each of them up in a virtual environment to poke sticks at
them.
