  I would echo Richard Stovall's comments.  While I completely agree
that (fewer components == better), I also feel PPTP is really not a
good option in this day and age.  The dependence on passwords for
security is not acceptable to me.  Nobody gains remote access to our
networks without strong crypto (public keys).

  Windows 2000 and later include a native L2TP-over-IPsec solution.
If I remember correctly it supports public keys.  I've never really
played with it.

  Here at %WORK%, we've been using OpenVPN for years.  It's free,
lightweight, cross-platform, and unobtrusive.  It's built on top of
OpenSSL, which is probabbly the most widely used SSL implementation in
the world.  Highly recommended.
