In the Toolbox section he does write ups about tools that Admin's should have or know about. Some like the AD are Microsoft but he does a lot of them not Microsoft. I think most have not been by Microsoft and not all are free but of the ones I have personally looked at all were exactly as he described. Several are ones I see on the list all the time.
