Late to this one, but John how many PC's do you manage? If it's over 20 GPO's are your friend! Start with easy stuff (screensaver timeout) and go from there. Jeremy Moskowitz has a book called "Group Policy - Fundamentals, Security, and the managed Desktop" that I recommend.
