Eh? Samba can very secure, depending on how you configure it. It can be a full AD domain member, do Kerberos and SMB signing, supports ACLs, all sorts of stuff. It even claims to have an SMB payload encryption feature which Microsoft doesn't have, although I've never tried that (since my use of Samba is for Windows interop).
