No gotchas that I can think of.  Do you have a single static IP, or a range?
 If a single, they aren't doing anything goofy like requiring you to be DHCP
to receive an IP from a reservation on their end, are they?

Did you do your pings from a PC, or from the diagnostics page of the
SonicWall GUI?  Try from there and maybe use Traceroute instead, if you
haven't already.

Lastly, what kind of firewall rules did you set up?  The SonicWall can be
configured such that only known (logged in) users can get out to the
internet, and the firewall knows who you are by default (admin) if you're
logged in to the GUI.  Once you close that session (or it times out) it may
not know who you are and you're blocked from going on the internet.
