Ok. it was a PEBKaC problem. I entered the wireless password on the router in all-caps (for the alpha part) and on the laptop entered it in all lower-case. I need to change the password to mixed case for extra security (although with all the other wireless nodes in the area, including an unencrypted one, who's going to single ME out???) Also need to re-flash my router with DD-WRT, but that's a project for another day, perhaps when the wife is working and I'm not (more likely the other way around! :-/)
