Thank you very much, Brian (and you, too, Dan). The re-introduction of
deleted items was something I had not considered.
I will remove them from AD. I won't bother to reload them, though. They are
old DG servers long past their prime.

It will potentially reintroduce deleted objects back in to your AD. If this
time limit has been reached you absolutely CANNOT put these boxes back on the
network – as they’re W2k they need to be wiped and reloaded. Thanks,Brian

Subject: RE: dcpromo 2 old W2K dc's Thanks, Brian. So, if it has been more
than 60 sixty days, there would be a conflict between the W2K dc's and the W2k3
dc's? Or just no file replication? From: [email protected]

long as you bring the boxes back online before then (e.g. before 60 days from
when they were turned off) and allow them to replicate you can turn them back
on. Thanks,Brian [email protected] c - 312.731.3132 From:

tombstoneLifetime attribute on this object: CN=Directory Service,CN=Windows
NT,CN=Services inside the Configuration NC. You can look at this using adsi
edit. You may find that the attribute is null. Thanks,Brian

Subject: dcpromo 2 old W2K dc's We're running two W2003 dc's but have not
'upgraded' to W2003 AD; still running on W2K. I have the 2 W2k dc's off-line
right now. I want to demote both. My question is: since the W2K dc's have
been off-line for a while, should I bring them on-line and then leave it be for
a while so the fRS can complete or I can bring it on-line and run dc-promo
right away? Note that DNS is not running on the W2K dc's; that was moved to the
W2003.~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~
