2 separate disks, one has all the vm's, the other is allocated to openfiler, one of the vm's is connected to openfiler with iscsi as a test, I also have it mounted back to the esxi host via nos and connect my main pc to it over cifs.
As this is only my home server, redundancy was never a requirement for me.
