Hey Brian, Thanks for following up! I opened a PSS case and the guys is green, using social.technet for answers, sigh? Not even MS knows how to join a Win7 box that’s prestaged with WDS? I find that rather hard to believe?
Anyway, here is the answer to your questions! http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd637990%28WS.10%29.aspx Shortly down you’ll see: 2. To prestage the computer, use the following syntax: WDSUTIL /Add-Device /Device:<name> /ID:<GUID or MAC>. Example: WDSUTIL /Add-Device /Device:Computer1 /ID:ACEFA3E81F20694E953EB2DAA1E8B1B6 I do this so I can control the name. To join a Windows 7 or equiv machine, TechNet says: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730845%28WS.10%29.aspx For Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 images. The image unattend file (ImageUnattend.xml) must have the setting <UnsecureJoin>true</UnsecureJoin> in the Microsoft-Windows-UnattendedJoin component. Additionally, the Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup component for the <specialize> unattended pass must exist, even if it is empty. My issue is automating OOBE its getting avoided completely? I am redeploying the entire network at a shop as a result of them joining OVS. This causes the name of the computer to be prompted for. I was testing everything pre deployment but the wds server is a W2k3r2 box, it will eventually be a fresh W2kr2 box, so I am throwing in the towel until I have the final OS, I just hope I can roll all the clients this weekend… Again, thanks for replying and appreciate any guidance! jlc From: Brian Desmond [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, October 15, 2010 7:52 PM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: RE: Win 7 WDS Unattended Domain Join Not sure what you mean by “unsecure domain join”? Also not sure what you mean by prestaging it using the MAC? Thanks, Brian Desmond [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> w – 312.625.1438 | c – 312.731.3132 From: Joseph L. Anyone know the black magic here to get the domain join to work?
