Not sure about GL, but DL G5 is hotswap (I suspect that GL will be the same).
For re-assurance, do a backup prior to pulling the failed drive. Since it's a DC, and you have others, it's not a huge deal (unless you have applications hard coded to use this DC - plenty of those around IME). a) Check firmware etc (per suggestions) b) Transfer the FSMO roles first (if they are held by this machine) c) Do a backup d) Pull the failed drive. You can try a reseat per suggestions. Otherwise plug in the new drive If everything goes bad, then reinstall Windows and do a dcpromo Cheers Ken From: Stefan Jafs [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, 28 October 2010 4:27 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: Replacing drive in Raid 1 (+ 0) I have an HP GL380 G5 server with 2 drives for the OS, it's now telling me that drive 1 is about to fail! 2 months after the end of Warranty! I'm ordering a new drive but how do I replace it? Do I have to shut down and start with SmartStart go to ACU and split the Array or do I simply shut down replace the drive and re-start? - - Stefan Jafs ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
