Sorry I'm late to this discussion. If you are not apposed to a linux backup server, I like BackupPC. File based backup with deduplication, Web interface, can backup client machines directly as well as the servers. Works with SMB, Rsync or SSH tunneled tar. Zero cost, and easy to install on Ubuntu. (just use the package manger and search for "BackupPC".)
