Not familiar with LeftHand but dont they have any dedicated management
ports? I reserve my iscsi switches for iscsi traffic. I treat managemt of
them the same way I treat management of anything else.

If you have other machines than the cluster that need iscsi access then
connect them to the same switches. I.e. treat your iscsi network the same
way you would any other SAN fabric.

Currently planning the network layout for a new small vSphere cluster that I
have to start building next week.

Hardware will be HP DL380 Servers, P4000 SAN nodes, 2910al switches.

I’ll have 12 NICs available per host the 2910’s are dedicated for iSCSI and
anything else I want kept off the main LAN.

Where I’m struggling a little is in working out the optimal way to configure
the iSCSI so it’s on a dedicated switch, but also accessible from the main
LAN.

· Option A would seem to be to turn on IP routing on the switches,
but this seems far from idea.

· Option B would be to have a management VM which would be
multi-homed between the VM network and the iSCSI network.

· Option C is have the iSCSI VLAN connect to a port on a firewall
and only allow management PC’s from the VM network through to the iSCSI LAN.

I’m leaning towards a combination of B and C as with this new setup I want
to have a management VM available so that myself and my colleague have one
place to go to find all the admin tools we’re likely to need for our various
systems (in addition to on our PC’s), but it would also be useful to have
direct access from our PCs.

I’d appreciate your opinions on the ideal solution or combination of
solutions.

Thanks,

Paul
