I've thought about it, but not quite ready to make the jump. The boys are 3 &
5, so they won't be on the Internet quite yet, and even if they are, I'll be
restricting their access via the hosts file and only explicitly allow sites
that they want access to, such as starfall.com. For the most part they'll just
running their educational games and the like.

I'm considering setting up an old PC as a router/content filter with Ubuntu or
something similar before I really allow them on the Internet, and even then it
will only be when we're all downstairs, and they won't be allowed to have the
laptop in their room - it must remain downstairs.

Thanks!

I did see it and it looks like others have you on the right track. If my
laptop weren't at home, I'd take a deeper look. However, why not just put
Ubuntu on the computer for your kids. I just upgraded both of my kids to
Ubuntu from Windows XP on their desktops and I'm not looking back. They love
it and I don't have to worry so much about AV2010, 2011, 2012 and whatever
other crap is out there getting on their computers. Nevermind the fact all of
the educational software that you can install...

Hahaha!

Speaking of which, Don - did you see my other thread about booting Windows XP
with GRUB2? Any thoughts, if you're inclined to share?

Ever since this last round of Windows updates my home machine has started a bad
habit of just hanging at random times. It becomes completely unresponsive.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks
