So, are these SAS, SATA or SCSI drives? Since you're having trouble with the RAID controller, time to consider throwing them into a machine with the appropriate connection and clearing them one at a time... Not sure what your timeframe on the project is, though. If they're SAS or SCSI, it could be a bit more challenging to find an appropriate machine, you might have to use the server's integrated conrollers to do one disk at a time. If SATA, you could setup multiple workstations and run the DBAN in parrallel.
