I don't have the card yet, looking to go buy a couple, not sure what's on
the shelf at the local shop. The server will be a Frankenstein/homebuilt,
using an i7 processor again on an EX58-UD4P mobo. The mobo has one
integrated gigabit NIC (realtek ?) that works fine, but all I've got left
for add-ins for extra ports are some older 3Com 3c905b-tx and similar, no
chance for 64 bit drivers.

Fry's here last week had a deal on Corsair DDR3 memory, 12gb kit ( 3 sticks
) for $139 with a $10 mail in rebate! ( and yes, I'm old enough to remember
when that $$$ would barely buy a mb of RAM, and even before when it was
barely enough for the 9 chips in a 256kb set to hand install into the mobo
sockets, uphill, both ways ! )

While not always 100% true, if a network card works with Windows 7, it
should work with Server 2008 R2. The two operating systems are based on the
same code.

Same is true with Vista <--> Windows Server 2008 and XP <--> Server 2003.

But more importantly, what network card are you looking at using? Do you
know its' brand, model number? IE, is it made by Intel? Broadcom? Is it
integrated into the motherboard of the system in question? If so, what kind
of system is it? Dell? HP?
