Smart phones can be mostly controlled from either Exchange or Blackberry. While BB is the only device you can really control completely, you can set policies with Exchange for a decent number of devices (Varies on OS and brand) On android, we use Touchdown to allow kill commands to wipe the phone and SD card, allows for more robust syncing as well than the native google mail app. Iphone supports remote kill and basic security.
