I have tested 4 Windows 7 computers with an external USB hard drive (7200rpm 512GB Hitachi 2.5"). The transfer speeds are miserable at 5 to 10mb per second. Transfer speeds to high performance USB flash drives are very slow as well.
On the SAME PC with XP installed, the speeds are almost 6X as fast with the same drive. I have tried small files, large files, single files, multiple files and have seen the average speed stay the same on W7. I have done some searching and found a lot of complaints about slow USB transfer in Windows 7, but my searching has found nothing that fixes or helps the situation. This seems to be a Windows 7 issue. Anyone else seen this or been able to get the USB transfer speeds increased?
