That's the thing...I don't know *precisely* when it broke. I don't need to VPN much. I just wanted to look at something in the office Tuesday morning before I headed off to a seminar in Atlanta and so I tried to VPN in. Last time I remember using it was around Thanksgiving, 2010, when I was testing another laptop for a user. I wanted to ensure that the problems the user was having were not related to the VPN, so I took my laptop out and tested the VPN from McDonalds and it worked I had VPN-ed in from my wife's desktop Monday night late, as I didn't want to fuss with firing up the laptop. I haven't actually sat down and compared patches, etc on the laptop against the desktop. I know that the desktop is using Vipre Home (standard) for anti-malware.

Since the wifes PC works, what does a comparison between the two machines reveal? From: John Aldrich [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2011 7:57 AM To: NT System Admin Issues Subject: VPN problems I am having problems with my Cisco VPN and my company laptop (Windows XP). Ive tried the Cisco client, and Ive tried the Shrewsoft VPN client. Neither one works, although the Cisco one said it was connected, I was unable to get past the firewall. The Shrew client wont even connect. It gets a timeout error. There is no firewall installed on the laptop. The same configuration works on my wifes XP box at home using the Cisco client, so Im about 99.9999% sure its not my account info. Any ideas where to look? I dont know much about this stuff. Ive got Vipre Enterprise Premium installed, but dont have the firewall portion active. Before anyone asks, yes, it *used* to work, but the last time I went and tried it (Tuesday) it just wouldnt work and Ive been fighting to get it going since then. Heck, it doesnt even work from McDonalds, which has open wireless and Ive tried wired and wireless, neither works.
