Robocopy seems to come out of IT folks mouths like Cisco and IBM used to as the pat answer to what should I use for "X". :)
Reading this thread, I wonder if anyone has ever tried RichCopy? I never hear it mentioned here. I used it back in the day for copying thousands of files across less than optimal links for ediscovery or archival cases and found it superior to RoboCopy in some aspects, particularly the multi-threading so you can copy in parallel vs serially and the pause/resume feature. I saw the /IPG for robobopy mentioned below and it never worked well in my experience, that and the multi-threading was what first sent me to RichCopy. It's certainly not a replacement for robocopy but it has some pretty flexible options that might make it a better choice in some situations.. I am thinking of an auto responder for the list that just replies to the list with 'Use Robocopy. I love Robocopy. Shame it is so broke in 2008 R2. ROBOCOPY can throttle if you specify the /IPG switch. Happy Friday Everyone, I have been asked to transfer a folder from 1 Windows 2003 server to another Windows 2003 server over a WAN link. This will be done weekly. The client would like to use BITS and have the copy 'trickle' over a long period of time so as not to saturate the WAN link. The only Microsoft util I have found is BitsAdmin. It seems that you have to explicitly name each file you want copied. I need something that can do an entire folder. Any ideas?
