I don't get the fanfare, the update hasn't changed since 2009, just the 
delivery mechanism, I admit I haven't looked at this in great detail but I read 
it as "the old update from 2009 is now available from MU" Even the press said 
in the trade rags that what it did was make it marginally easier for users to 
find. I expect any companies that were clearly concerned about it addressed it 
long ago. I would also still think l need to depend on the GPO to enforce the 
settings. Am I missing something?

Wow, you mean I can actually start thinking about losing the "Disable AutoRun" 
GPO setting that I have deployed as standard for the last few years or so?

You might want to deploy this one with your patch specifications to add 
additional protection to your systems from conficker and its offspring.
