For those of you who do Disk to Disk backups. How do you handle archiving month/year end, what type of rotation do you do? With our current tape backups we do a 4 week rotation with month ends. Every backup is a full backup. Then we keep December's forever as our year end locked away in the safe, checking periodically for integrity. Planning on changing our D2D to weekly differential and then mirror the backup disk at end of week to removable USB drive to take off site. The local backup disk is a mirrored ioSafe to keep the data relatively protected during the week before it gets copied and taken off site. Short of a tornado taking it to Oz we'll be fine and it's acceptable to management. At this point with 2TB drives I don't have to worry much about spanning multiple drives. Although it will make things much easier when bus powered USB drive hit 2TB+. I'm not really worried about $$ of hard drives or shelf life. Just opinions on how I'm planning to do things. We're private and no regulations to really worry about, just trying to cover all my bases. Unfortunately I don't have the funds or high speed connection to replicate data offsite real time, but even if I did it would still have to be backed up and archived. Thanks Niles
