Don't forget to take a look at Odyssey Software. Not a bar scanner solution, but will still capture the hardware asset information.

We use BNA Software with a scanner and it works well. The scanners we use are Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 based. So it gives you lots of options for hardware. We use FAS from SAGE, which is integrated with our accounting package, MAS90. Seems to work ok. I believe they provided the scanner.
