Thanks!

Meanwhile, I decided to do something unusual for this group and go check
the FAQ for Quantum... ;-)

1. As you implied, a cleaning tape is a cleaning tape; OTOH...

2. A bar code is a bar code.

If you want your backup software to run head cleanings automagically, then
the code needs to say "CLN" at one end and either "L4" or "L5" at the
other end. Mine happened to say "L1". No problem - FAQ links me to
another article. Bar code or no bar code, I can tell the library that a
cleaning tape is in one designated slot. THEN, using the library
software, tell the system to go clean the head. It doesn't bother with
reading the lable. (The article warns one that it will attempt to clean
the head with whatever cartridge it finds in that slot, so be sure it is
in fact a cleaning tape.)

Re: LTO cleaning tapes

Can't answer your question directly but I was told to use my LTO 4
cleaning tape on my LTO 5 drive and it works fine.

Subject: LTO cleaning tapes

Greetings!

Before I do major damage...

For an LTO-5 drive, does it use the same cleaning tape as older LTO
drives? I have a brand new LTO cleaning tape which was manufactued while
LTO-2 was "the latest".

So, again, is there any reason to not use an "LTO-2" cleaning tape,
unused, in an LTO-5 drive?

Thanks...
