Micheal,

Not sure that’s 100% spot on, as there are different transmitter types, I
know that Sprint phones ( no sim card ) are not compatible with the digital
networks for AT&T and I think Verizon. So at best, my Sprint EVO may only
function in analog roaming form in an AT&T only area, or some other
functionally diminished capacity.

The best part of rooting for most people is that you can use it on any
carrier. This is very important to us in the US who are f'd by the current
cell service monopolies.

Second best would be that you can then install and or do whatever the heck
you want with the device. Although I think Android already lets you install
apps without requiring a certificate, rooting will let you go many steps
further in modifying or replacing the built-in OS.

Lately I’ve been seeing a number of articles and videos on rooting Android
phones, including the HTC EVO that I use.

Besides the obvious ‘gaining root access’, has anyone done this that can
list some of the benefits from rooting your phone ?

(I’m thinking maybe I could finally uninstall that Nascar app that was
bundled by Sprint )

Thanks in advance
