All, I'm starting to stand up a test lab for implementing DA/UAG (using this book: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Forefront-2010-Administrators-Handbook/dp/1849681627/). Unfortunately, the author assumes an already working Win2k8 environment - understandable, as it's pretty much outside the scope of the discussion to set up the domain.
This is my first Win2k8 environment, and while I've ordered Minasi's book on Win2k8 and Joe Davies' book on IPv6, I'm running into a stumbling block that I can't solve with Google. Since this is for DA/UAG, getting IPv6 correct is pretty crucial, AFAICT, hence the concern. I've stood up a Win2k8 Enterprise server (Action Pack is nice!), put a static IPV4 address on it, then added DNS and DHCP services on it, and now I'm trying to dcpromo it, but it's barking at me that the IPv6 address isn't static. So, I converted the IPv4 address 192.168.200.10/24 to IPV6 notation - fe80::c0a8:c800a and entered that manually, accepting the /64 default netmask. I tried using the more correct /256 netmask, but Windows refuses it, and it said that the largest netmask it would accept is /128, so I used that. Once I've done that, it shows *two* link-local addresses - understandable, I suppose, given that the address I assigned is a link-local, though I don't know why it doesn't replace the other one. I figure I'll get an answer to that later. Even after having done that, dcpromo still barks at me regarding the dynamic IPv6 address, which corresponds to what I've been reading for the past few hours. Has anyone worked with DA/UAG, and know if just accepting the dynamic IPv6 address is a reasonable thing to do?
