Hello, I'm new on this list having been recommended to it by a friend.
I have the task of creating a web site for my small company. I've never created one before, having been a long time PowerBuilder client/server developer. I have no problem learning a new tool/methodology, but one thing I was wondering if someone on the list might have experience with is what I should start learning. Essentially, the web site will have product browsing/searching/pricing capability, as well as ordering. Looking at about 1,000 products. I look in bookstores and see books on many front end tools and many back end tools. The company uses a SQL Server 2008 back end. Where should I start? Should I think about Dreamweaver for a front end? ASP for server interface? Are there any valid Microsoft front end tools these days? Also, hosted? Or internal? I know this is an IT list and not a web development list, but I'm hoping someone might have some experience and could say, "The best prediction for tools that look future-solid is X" Thanks!
