I'm with Michael, I think you have pretty good performance. Why do you think you don't, simply because of your line of site math? If so, I don't think that is a reason to suspect something.
If it makes you feel any better, I have 1 T1 handoff to MPLS traversing about 1500 miles and my latency is 250 ms and we are happy with it.
