My google-fu fails me, but I am fairly certain that Microsoft sold their
Apple stock long ago (making a healthy profit).

  MSFT owns a portion of Apple, too; that doesn't mean they don't want
to compete against the iPhone.

  I think MSFT cares less (note: not "cares none") about Facebook
because Microsoft isn't really trying to do anything in the social media
market.  They don't see Facebook as competition; they don't have any
product they would position against FB.

  Come to think of it, other than Bing, MSFT seems to have gotten away
from really pushing hard at "web property" stuff.
