My google-fu fails me, but I am fairly certain that Microsoft sold their Apple stock long ago (making a healthy profit).

MSFT owns a portion of Apple, too; that doesn't mean they don't want to compete against the iPhone. I think MSFT cares less (note: not "cares none") about Facebook because Microsoft isn't really trying to do anything in the social media market. They don't see Facebook as competition; they don't have any product they would position against FB.
