We had an issue with a client a couple months back where their DNS server (Windows 2008 SP2) was unable to properly resolve a .US domain without adding Forwarders to the mix. Now my boss insists that I add forwarders to all the DNS servers we manage. I've always prefered to allow the servers to just use the Root Hints, but I can't really seem to explain the benefit vs. Forwarders. Ultimately, doesn't DNS come down to what is stored on the Root Servers?
