Probably a mix of installer files, patches, service packs, what have you.

To answer your other question, it is possible to extend the partition if
there's room on the disk with diskpart, which is native to 2003.  I offer no
warranties on success, and I would proceed with caution on a DC, especially
if it is your sole DC.
