As far as I know there is not yet a way the Crescendo can be made to work in Linux. Also, knowing the right L2CR won't help since the kernel does not use the G3 CPU and so cannot set it's L2 cache. In order to solve this problem the bootloader is the point that has to be patched as the kernel obviously is started with the 601 CPU active. The bootloader seems to reactivate the 601 (or somehow deactivate the G3) before jumping into the kernel code. One needs to find out at which point that happens and then find a workaround.

@Daniel:
As you are the expert in terms of miboot - what's your opinion?

Daniel, thank you for your reply.

I had already tried L2CacheConfig and the PowerLogix
utility. L2CacheConfig locks up the machine (OS9.0)
and the PowerLogix gave a error saying it doesn't work
with NuBus.
So I tried your other two suggestions, the DayStar
product renders the machine unbootable, and the BootX
Grab3CacheSetting doesn't recognize the card, claiming
no G3 processor available.

The settings I tried were taken from the website, so
not entirely random, 0xB9000000, 0xA9100000,
0xA9000000.

has anyone ever gotten one of the Crescendo cards to
work with YDL in a nuBus machine?

With my install so far the 2.4.30-pre1 kernel works
fine. am I gaining or losing anything by running it as
opposed to the previous kernel? I did the original
install as others have guessed from the YDL3.0 disc
images. And retreived the updates with YUM for
3.0.1(?)
would I be better off with a Debian install?

Thanks, Robert
