you can try to connect the CF card to the internal IDE bus instead of the harddisk using an IDE to CF adaptor.
Petrvz has already tried this but not every CF card seems to work.

Didn't even think about the read/write cycles. Making a swap partition on one would use it up very quickly come to think of it. Also, never would have thought that the bus for the PCMCIA card would cause a bottleneck. I figured it would certainly be faster than a hard drive, even with larger files. Oh well, here's to hoping and finding that next best thing to speed things along.

I remember doing this with OS 9 a few times, but is it possible to use a Compact Flash Card in a PCMCIA adaptor for swap, or possible even as your "/" partition? I would imagine doing this would speed things up a good bit. I have a few spare flash cards laying around and figured it wouldn't hurt to put them to use. Would they be stable since they are being accessed by PCMCIA? Any ideas?
