Prominent church figure quits green movement over nuclear. UK Bishop Hugh Montefiore, who has campaigned on environmental issues for several decades, has been forced to quit his trustee role with Friends of the Earth after 20 years because he wants to advocate the use of nuclear energy to counter global warming. He champions it as "reliable, safe, cheap, pollution-free energy" and blames the "the stonewalling opposition of powerful environmental organisations" for its lack of popular support.
